Wedding at Whitehall

An Annapolis Native (and Interior Designer) Creates Her Dream Wedding at an Architecturally Stunning Venue

Margaret Reid and Gibbs Fogarty chose a traditional June wedding in Annapolis, the bride’s hometown. The couple live in Washington, D.C. (where Gibbs grew up) but Annapolitan roots grow deep. The mother of the bride, for instance, teaches French at an Annapolis area private school. Her father is in real estate. Margaret chose St. Anne’s Church for the ceremony (complete with 11 bridesmaids and 13 groomsmen; Towne Transport was in charge of getting everyone around town). The bride wore a gown by Oscar de la Renta and the groom wore a suit from J.Crew. Chesapeake Floral created the flower artistry. Memorable hair and makeup touches were provided by Christin Birckhead of Conceptual Beauty.

The reception was held at Annapolis’ “newest” historical venue, Whitehall Estate, the impressive 1700’s plantation home listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It has only been opened for private events since last spring. In fact, the Reid-Fogarty reception was the first to be held at Whitehall. Paris Caterers out of D.C. created an amazing buffet dinner with special stations such as “Southern” with fried chicken, a jazzed up mac and cheese, and queen corn soufflé, and a “Land Station” with black Angus tenderloin of beef Bearnaise, and pork loin with fig glaze, as well as veggies and salads galore. Caroline’s Cakes came up with a picture-perfect confection. ATL Groove Factory provided the musical accompaniment to the merriment.

Following a honeymoon tour of the Amalfi Coast (they wanted a “warm places” vacation with plenty of sightseeing options) the couple returned to their home in D.C.—where Margaret is an interior designer with OTJ Architects and Gibbs is general manager at Sport Chevrolet, his family business.
