Whatever the occasion makeup can enhance your features and help you feel ready to tackle anything. Taking a look from day to night doesn’t have to require a lot of makeup work, just a few smart moves.

Renee Kaplan of David Alexander Salon and Spa in Annapolis believes that when it comes to day-to-evening looks contour is key. “Contour should be done with blush, more so than contouring with a cream or powder.” People can overdo it, Kaplan explains, and look artificial instead of fresh and glamorous.

For day, Kaplan is all about being natural with an edge. Women should look “fun and fresh,” she says. Some of the products she uses to create day looks are: NYX Cosmetics Glam Lip Gloss VIP, Urban Decay Flatline and West eyeshadows, and NARS Sin blush.

Her picks for a nighttime edge include: Dior Addict Délice brown lipstick, Urban Decay Backlash white eyeshadow, Urban Decay eye pencil in Sabbath, and NARS Lovejoy blush.

Amy Wild, owner of Vintage Veils in Severna Park says to relax when putting on makeup. People shouldn’t be afraid to experiment. “Who’s to say what is wrong or right?” she says. She does believe, though, that less is always better than more. “Start out natural. It’s easier to add rather than subtract,” she advises. Her additions for a nighttime look include splashes of color for eyes and lips. “Lipstick gives you the look that you did more than you did,” says Wild.

Her recommendations for a day look include: Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream, MAC Pro Longwear Concealer, Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector, MAC Mineralize Skinfinish powder, and Burt’s Bees Beeswax Lip Balm.

Her night look recommendations are: Urban Decay All Nighter makeup setting spray, MAC Matte Bronze Bronzing Powder, MAC Pro Longwear Paint Pot (cream shadow), MAC Blacktrack gel eyeliner, and liquid lipstick by Jeffree Star.
