Deborah Potter, Esq., has lived and practiced law in Annapolis for 26 years. After graduating with honors from the University of Maryland Law School, she began her career defending lawsuits against insurance companies. After five years, she turned the focus of her practice completely around, and now represents only the victims of negligence.

Twice named to the list of Top 100 Women in Maryland by The Daily Record, Ms. Potter is active in many associations throughout the state and devotes many hours to charitable organizations. She is one of the founders of Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) in Anne Arundel County, a nonprofit organization that trains volunteers to advocate for children in the court system.

Ms. Potter’s most notable case brought a $26.4 million verdict against Ford Motor Company, suing on behalf of a victim for an auto’s design defect. Potter explains that “insurance companies are not always fair and that is why it’s important to have an attorney with a track record of litigating, who the insurance companies know. And they do know which lawyers try cases and which ones settle cases cheaply.”

Potter warns that many people are underinsured. “The minimum amount required by law—$30,000—is often insufficient in a personal injury case,” Potter states. If you are involved in accident, it is critical to contact an experienced personal injury attorney as soon as possible. Potter’s first job is to educate the injured person about what the law allows, what insurance provides and what their rights are. She is driven to “help people put their life back together and to see them heal.”
